While she may not be the usual Get Familiar fare, with hundreds of thousands of fans, no one has captured me recently the way Brandi Carlile has. Her latest record, Bear Creek, is a non-stop assault of power. Vocals, instrumentation, lyrics. Power. From the stunning opener, “Hard Way Home,” to the ethereally beautiful closer “Just Kids,” the record is an absolute display of Carlile’s top-notch talent. If I wasn’t being somewhat economical, I would have listed every song on the album in those recommended below. It’s been a long time since I’ve been so taken aback by a female vocalist on the folk/alt.country side of things, and I am admittedly late to the game with this one, but at this point I’m just happen I made it before the final whistle. For the past week, Carlile has invaded my airspace with no intent on leaving, and I’m perfectly okay with it. I expect her to stick around for a long, long time.
Recommended Songs: “Hard Way Home,” “Raise Hell,” “Save Part Of Yourself,” “That Wasn’t Me,” “Keep Your Heart Young,” “What Did I Ever Come Here For?,” “In The Morrow,” “Just Kids”
